Yakushi-in, Buddhist temple in Akashi, Japan.

Yakushi-in is a Buddhist temple complex in Akashi featuring traditional buildings, multiple religious statues, and landscaped gardens that spread across the grounds. The layout includes symmetrical structures arranged in a classical style that guides visitors through different areas of spiritual significance.

The temple was founded more than 1300 years ago during the early imperial period as a site dedicated to religious prayer. Its ancient origin connects it to the earliest phases of Buddhist temple development in Japan.

The temple serves as a gathering place for local Buddhist practitioners who come to pray and meditate among its religious sculptures. The site remains active in the spiritual life of the community today.

The temple grounds can be explored on foot by walking through the various buildings and gardens spread across the site. The pathways are easy to navigate and offer quiet spots to stop and rest throughout the visit.

The temple was among the first in Japan to feature a distinctive arrangement with two symmetrical pagodas facing each other. This architectural plan became a model that influenced many temples built later across the country.
