Yakushi-in, Buddhist temple in Akashi, Japan.

The Yakushi-in temple complex contains numerous Buddhist statues and artifacts displayed within its traditional architectural structures and gardens.

Emperor Tenmu established the temple more than 1300 years ago as a sanctuary for prayers dedicated to the recovery of his consort, future Empress Jito.

The temple's Yakushi Triad statues represent principal Buddhist figures and stand as examples of classical Japanese religious sculpture craftsmanship.

Visitors can participate in O-shakyo meditation sessions, which involve the mindful practice of tracing sutra letters within the temple grounds.

The temple features the first Yakushiji-style complex layout in Japan, distinguished by its arrangement of two symmetrical pagodas.
