Tsukamoto Sozan Building, Office building in Sukiyabashi, Ginza, Japan
The Tsukamoto Sozan Building is an office and commercial building in Ginza, Tokyo's central shopping and business district, designed by Mitsubishi Estate. It has nine floors above ground and three basement levels, and hosts a mix of office and commercial tenants.
The building was constructed in 1960, at a time when Tokyo was going through rapid economic change and new commercial buildings were reshaping Ginza. Mitsubishi Estate, one of Japan's most established property developers, was behind the design.
The basement of the building is home to Sukiyabashi Jiro, one of Japan's most talked-about sushi restaurants, known for its traditional approach to nigiri. Visitors from around the world come here specifically to experience a form of craftsmanship that has been passed down over decades.
The building sits in the heart of Ginza, within walking distance of several subway stations, making it easy to reach on foot from many parts of central Tokyo. Once there, the surrounding streets are easy to explore on foot.
Sukiyabashi Jiro, the restaurant in the basement, became world-famous after the 2011 documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi, drawing an unprecedented number of international visitors to this address. Chef Jiro Ono was among the first sushi chefs to receive three Michelin stars for such a small counter-style restaurant.
