Uchida Houses

The Uchida Houses feature traditional wooden structures with thatched roofs, presenting architectural elements typical of nineteenth-century Japanese residential buildings.

The Uchida family residence, established around 1900, functioned as a center for maritime trade operations between Edo and the Seto Inland Sea.

The museum maintains a collection of 10,000 documents detailing the activities of Utsumi-bune ships, which transported rice, salt, and other goods across regions.

Located at coordinates 34.734611° N and 136.873833° E, the museum provides visitors access to preserved living quarters and maritime artifacts.

The buildings contain specialized windows called Monomi, positioned behind ship masts to monitor vessel conditions during maritime operations.
