西福寺, Buddhist temple in Kita-ku, Japan
The Saifukuji Temple features traditional Japanese architectural elements with intricate wooden structures and a carefully maintained garden spanning 1400 square meters.
The temple gained prominence during the Edo period when it served as a sanctuary for valuable artworks and manuscripts relocated from Kyoto during the Onin War.
Within the temple grounds, the Amida Hall and study areas exhibit national cultural properties, including religious paintings and calligraphy from medieval Japan.
Visitors can access the temple grounds daily between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with guided tours available in multiple languages through advance reservation.
The temple garden represents a physical interpretation of the Pure Land paradise on Earth, incorporating design elements from the mid-Edo period.
