第二千曲川橋梁

第二千曲川橋梁, Railway bridge in Ueda, Japan.

Description

The Second Chikuma River Bridge is a railway bridge in Ueda that crosses the Chikuma River. The structure features five sections of bright red steel truss construction spanning approximately 220 meters.

History

The bridge was originally built as part of the Ueda Electric Railway's Bessho Line to connect communities along the Chikuma River valley. In October 2019, Typhoon Hagibis caused severe flooding that led to the collapse of one section.

Culture

The bridge represents an essential part of the Ueda Electric Railway Bessho Line, connecting communities along the historic Chikuma River valley.

Practical

The bridge functions as a crucial transportation link for the local rail system connecting different districts of Ueda. It provides reliable train access across the river for both residents and visitors.

Did you know?

The bridge displays noticeably spaced supporting pillars that reflect deliberate engineering choices in the steel structure. These regular intervals help distribute weight across the river and demonstrate the precision of its builders.
