JR Shikoku Tadotsu Factory, Railway maintenance facility in Tadotsu, Japan.
JR Shikoku Tadotsu Factory is a railway maintenance facility in Tadotsu where electric trains, diesel trains, locomotives, passenger cars, and freight cars receive repairs and modifications. The complex contains multiple workshop buildings and service areas where technicians work on different types of rolling stock.
The facility began in 1889 as a repair shop operated by the Sanuki Railway at the original Tadotsu Station. It was later expanded to its current location and became a major maintenance center for regional rail operations.
Seven buildings within the factory received recognition as modern industrial heritage from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in February 2009.
The factory opens to visitors on select October weekends around Railway Day when guided tours are offered. A shuttle service connects Tadotsu Station directly to the facility for public access.
The factory cafeteria stands inside a former naval aviation hangar, one of the few remaining pre-World War II hangars in Japan. This unexpected reuse connects aviation history with the site's current railway operations.
