Kakegawa Kachouen, Bird and flower park in Kakegawa, Japan.
Kakegawa Kachouen is a bird and flower park in Kakegawa, Japan, covering 10 hectares and featuring a 7000-square-meter greenhouse filled with tropical water lilies and many flowering plants. The facility is divided into several connected zones, including open aviaries, covered plant halls, and enclosed climate spaces for exotic birds.
The site opened in September 2003, bringing together the concept of bird interaction and botanical collections under one roof. Over the following years, management expanded the range of species and built additional climate zones for tropical and subtropical plants.
The Japanese name combines the characters for flower and bird with the traditional word for garden, reflecting the dual focus of the site. Visitors watch handlers work with raptors using methods passed down over generations, relying on quiet gestures and patient approach.
The greenhouse maintains comfortable temperatures year-round, making a visit possible even when the weather outside is hot or cold. All areas are accessible by wheelchair and stroller, with wide paths and flat transitions helping movement throughout.
Visitors can touch and feed owls, penguins, and parrots directly while surrounded by rare tropical flowers. The controlled environment allows you to experience arctic penguins and equatorial plants just meters apart.
