Tateyama Cable Car

Tateyama Cable Car is a funicular railway in Ashikuraji that carries passengers up the mountainside. It connects two stations at different elevations and completes the journey in just a few minutes.

The funicular opened in 1954 and became the starting point of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Since then it has served as a key transportation link for visitors traveling through this mountain passage.

The cable car route passes by distinctive rock formations called Zaimoku-ishi, which stand like natural pillars against the mountainous landscape.

The ride takes only a few minutes to reach the upper station. Service runs seasonally, so visitors should check opening times before planning their visit.

This transportation system marks the initial ascent of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, where passengers experience an elevation change of 502 meters.
