Kuwanoki Falls

Kuwanoki Falls is a waterfall in Shingu that drops 21 meters through a canyon and flows into the Kumano-gawa River. The water descends vertically and is surrounded by dense forest that shapes the character of the spot.

The Ministry of the Environment recognized this waterfall as part of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls, honoring its natural and geographical importance. This designation reflects the ecological value the place has held for the region over time.

The path to the falls passes by Oga Hachiman-Jinja Shrine, where a rock wall serves as a worship site reflecting local spiritual traditions. This sacred spot shows how local people connect with and honor the power of the place.

You can reach the falls by taking the Kumano Kotsu Bus from Shingu Station, which takes about 22 minutes to the Oga bus stop. From there, a 15-minute walk brings you to the waterfall.

The name comes from mulberry trees that grow near the falls, creating a natural link between the water and its surroundings. These trees shape the appearance of the area and show how different parts of nature are intertwined here.
