Bivouac Giuliano Perugini, Mountain shelter in Val Montanaia, Italy.
The Bivouac Giuliano Perugini is a mountain shelter in the Friulian Dolomites built at 2060 meters (6759 feet) with a distinctive barrel-shaped design. It accommodates around nine mountaineers and sits within a landscape of exposed rock and alpine meadows.
The shelter was built in 1961 and underwent major renovation in 2005 to meet modern standards. It is part of the Berti Foundation and managed by the Giulie Alpine Society.
The shelter represents the Italian Alpine Club's commitment to maintaining mountain refuges, connecting generations of climbers through shared experiences.
Access comes via marked trails from Rifugio Pordenone, with a hike of approximately 5.9 kilometers and 820 meters of elevation gain to cover. The route is suitable for experienced mountain hikers and should be attempted in stable weather.
Nearby stands a natural bell tower rock formation that gives the location a distinctive visual landmark. This rocky structure serves as an orientation point for hikers and makes the shelter's position easy to spot from the surrounding trails.
