Cima Both, Mountain summit in the Dolomites, Italy

Cima Both is the highest mountain of the Spalti di Toro in the Dolomiti Friulane, reaching 2,437 metres on the border between the province of Belluno and the province of Pordenone. It stands just west of the Forcella Montanaia. Its best-known route, the Via Kogel-Both, is graded PD with passages up to grade 4 and calls for friends, nuts and ropes for the abseils.

This peak was shaped by tectonic activity that formed the Dolomites millions of years ago and stacked different rock layers. Erosion has since carved out its ridges and steep faces.

The peak is named after J. Both, who made the first ascent together with F. Koegel. The best-known route, the Via Kogel-Both, is graded PD with passages up to grade 4 and requires friends, nuts and ropes for the abseils.

The best climbing season runs from June to September when routes are clear and weather is more stable. Proper gear and mountaineering experience are essential since the climb is demanding and conditions can change quickly.

Each face of this peak displays different rock formations and climbing difficulty levels, allowing climbers to choose routes suited to their skill level. This variety makes it a popular destination for mountaineers with different experience backgrounds.
