St Peter's Fortress

The hexagonal fortification extends across two hectares with earthen walls, five gates, towers, and defensive trenches along its 4.3-kilometer perimeter.

In June 1752, military units including dragoons from the Lutsk and Vologda regiments established this wooden fortress on the right bank of the Ishim River.

The fortress marked a central point of trade connections and spiritual relations between Kazakh and Russian populations during the nineteenth century.

Two major caravan routes originated from the fortress: one led to Tashkent and Bukhara, while another connected to Kulja.

The fortress commander held the title of Chief Commandant of the entire Ishim Line, managing a garrison of one infantry and two dragoon companies.
