有楽映画劇場, Movie theater in Maeda, Kitakyushu, Japan
Yuraku Movie Theater was a cinema with 220 seats in Kitakyushu that preserved its original 1950s architectural design throughout its operational years. The interior layout and details reflected the aesthetic of that postwar era.
The theater opened in 1954 and became a popular venue for film screenings in the region. After more than 6 decades of operation, it closed in 2019 due to building deterioration and challenges with management succession.
The theater was used as a filming location for notable Japanese films including 'Curtain Call' and 'Always: Sunset on Third Street 2'. These productions took advantage of the original setting and atmosphere to create their scenes.
The theater was accessible via JR Yahata Station and the Nishi-Tetsu bus line, which had a dedicated stop called 'Maeda' nearby. Visitors could reach the location easily by public transportation without difficulty.
After 1971, the theater shifted its programming focus and screened a specific film genre exclusively while maintaining its original 1950s structural features. This change in content offering marked a significant shift in how the venue operated.
