Ngwo Pine forest, Pine forest in Enugu State, Nigeria.
The Ngwo Pine Forest contains numerous tall pine trees, creating a green canopy with trails that lead to limestone caves and waterfalls.
The British Colonial Government established this forest reserve in the early 20th century to protect against deforestation and maintain timber supplies.
The forest grounds include sacred sites with traditional Igbo shrines and burial places, maintaining strong connections to local heritage.
Visitors can reach the forest by taking a tricycle from Enugu New Market, followed by a bus ride uphill, with guides available for forest tours.
The forest marks the southern boundary of the Afromontane Forest ecoregion, containing one of the most diverse tree collections in Africa.
