Discovery Club, Indoor shooting gallery ride at Avonturenpark Hellendoorn, Netherlands
Discovery Club is a dark ride with laser-shooting gameplay at Avonturenpark Hellendoorn, where passengers travel through an underground mansion-themed environment in small vehicles. The system features a 135-meter track with vehicles carrying up to four people who shoot laser guns at moving targets and animated objects throughout their journey.
This attraction first opened in 1999 under the name Chateau Christal before being renamed Discovery Club in 2000. The name change reflected a shift in the ride's theming and operational direction.
The storyline unfolds around Professor Nulnix's mansion, where visitors take on the role of restoring order after an experiment gone wrong brought artifacts to life. As riders move through the spaces, they engage with the narrative through their laser guns, becoming part of the unfolding drama.
Expect the ride to take place in complete darkness, which enhances both the immersive experience and safety during the journey through underground tunnels. It helps to let your eyes adjust to the darkness after boarding so you can aim your laser gun more effectively at the targets.
The entire ride is constructed beneath a mansion courtyard, completely shielding visitors from the outside park environment and natural light. This underground placement creates an unusually immersive setting where the exterior world becomes irrelevant to the experience.
