Sandakan Heritage Museum

Sandakan Heritage Museum occupies two floors of the Wisma Warisan building and houses extensive collections documenting the city's development. The exhibits showcase photographs, artifacts, and documents tracing the town's journey from its origins to the present day.

The museum is housed in a former British administrative building that witnessed Sandakan's transformation from pre-war times to the present. Its exhibits trace the city's development through multiple phases, including post-war reconstruction and growth.

The Safari in Sandakan gallery displays photographs by Martin and Osa Johnson that capture daily life in North Borneo during British colonial times. These images offer visitors a direct window into how people lived and interacted during that period.

The museum sits next to the Sandakan Municipal Building and lies about one kilometer from the main bus terminal. The location makes it easy to find when exploring the central area of town.

The museum displays original office equipment from the 1920s and traditional farming tools that offer a rare glimpse into the working world of that era. A large wall mural depicting Sandakan's street scene from 1935 shows how dramatically different the town looked back then.
