Rodney Local Board, Local government district in Auckland, New Zealand.
Rodney is a local government area in northern Auckland covering multiple towns and rural regions along the coast. The district spans diverse landscapes ranging from flat farmland to areas where bush and water meet.
The area formed in 2010 following major Auckland governance reforms when several smaller districts were consolidated. Prior to this, a separate Rodney District had operated independently for decades.
The Rodney area hosts multiple marae of Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara where traditional Māori practices continue today. These places hold deep meaning for the local iwi's identity and spiritual life.
The area is large and exploring it requires a vehicle or local transport, especially for moving between towns. Many parks and public spaces are spread throughout the region and generally easy to reach.
The area contains the Kaipara Harbour, one of the largest enclosed harbor systems in the southern hemisphere. Many visitors discover this natural harbor and its sheltered waters only when exploring the coastal parts.
