Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Church, Parish church in Sibonga, Philippines
Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Church is a stone and coral structure displaying Neo-Gothic architecture with a bell tower at its entrance and detailed ornamentation on its facade. The building combines load-bearing walls with decorative elements that define its outward appearance.
The building began in 1690 as a subsidiary chapel of the neighboring town Carcar before gaining parish status over a century later. The dedication to Our Lady of the Pillar of Zaragoza followed this administrative shift.
The interior displays ceiling murals by Cebuano artist Raymundo Francia created using trompe-l'œil technique during the late 1920s. These painted surfaces shape how visitors experience the space when they look upward.
The church follows regular mass schedules throughout the week and opens to visitors during daytime hours. For more detailed exploration or special access, contacting the parish office beforehand helps arrange a better visit.
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines designated this structure as a Level II historical site in 2010. This official recognition reflects its importance in local and architectural history.
