Simala Shrine, Catholic pilgrimage church in Sibonga, Cebu, Philippines
The Monastery of the Holy Eucharist sits on Marian Hills and features white facades, several towers, and ornamental details that recall European religious buildings. The complex includes multiple prayer halls, courtyards, and staircases that spread across the sloping terrain.
Monks from Pampanga founded the complex in 1998 after local reports of dengue fever healings drew attention to the site. The monastery expanded steadily in the following years and became one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in the region.
Pilgrims bring colored candles that match their intentions and light them in designated areas throughout the grounds. Inside the prayer halls, devotees kneel quietly to offer their requests, often leaving small tokens of gratitude near the altars.
Sunday masses take place at noon and 3:30 PM, while weekdays offer additional services throughout the morning and afternoon. Visitors should wear modest clothing, as some areas require religious etiquette and the grounds include many staircases.
In certain prayer rooms, visitors remove their shoes before entering the area housing the statue of Our Lady of Lindogon, associated with reports of shedding tears. Some pilgrims spend hours in silent devotion before the figure, leaving handwritten notes with personal requests.
