Neptune's Fountain, Mannerist fountain at Long Market, Poland

Neptune's Fountain stands at Long Market in Gdańsk, displaying a bronze statue holding a trident that rises from a black marble basin. The figure sits in an open square in front of Artus Court, serving as a key landmark for visitors.

The fountain was built in 1633 under the direction of Mayor Bartholomew Schachmann, with the bronze statue cast in the municipal foundry. Over the centuries, the figure has been restored several times and adapted to the tastes of each era.

Neptune embodies Gdańsk's connection to the sea and its strength as a trading city. His figure is seen by visitors today as a symbol of maritime history and civic pride.

The fountain sits in an open square and is easily accessible from all sides, making it ideal for photos and exploration. The location is often used as a meeting point for walking tours through the Old Town and connects well to the surrounding pathways.

The original naked figure was later given a fish tail covering to address the religious concerns of the Protestant population. This adjustment shows how political and religious forces shaped the city's art during the 1600s.
