Neptune's Fountain, Mannerist fountain at Long Market, Poland

The bronze Neptune statue rises from a black marble basin in front of Artus Court, holding a trident as the central element.

The fountain emerged in 1633 under Mayor Bartholomew Schachmann's initiative, with the bronze figure cast by Peter Husen in the municipal foundry.

Neptune's figure symbolizes Gdansk's maritime connections, with its head modeled after Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius to represent authority and power.

The fountain operates daily in front of Artus Court, marking a central meeting point for guided tours through Gdansk's Main Town.

The statue's fish tail covering resulted from Protestant modesty concerns, leading to modifications of the original naked Neptune figure.
