Memorial ossuary to fallen soldiers in 1912-1918, Čačak

The memorial ossuary in Čačak holds the remains of fallen soldiers and features a blue stone obelisk as its centerpiece. Religious symbols are carved into each side of the monument to represent different faith traditions of those buried there.

Built in 1934, this ossuary was created to gather and honor soldiers who fell during the Balkan Wars and World War I in the region. The project responded to the need to identify and rebury scattered remains from multiple conflicts into a single memorial.

This memorial acknowledges soldiers from different religions and nations who died in the same conflicts, each faith represented through carved symbols on the stone. The site reflects how people of various traditions were affected equally by war.

The memorial is located within the municipal cemetery of Čačak and welcomes visitors throughout the year. Plan for a quiet, reflective visit to this solemn place of remembrance and respect.

The women's section of the veterans association took the lead in creating this memorial, identifying and relocating scattered remains of soldiers from the region. This grassroots effort by local women was instrumental in bringing together over 900 individuals in one dignified place.
