Monastery Jovanje, Serbian Orthodox monastery in Ovčar Banja, Serbia
Monastery Jovanje is a stone building complex near Čačak featuring a church with a cylindrical dome and narrow windows. A bell tower was added during the nineteenth century and shapes the overall appearance of the complex.
The monastery was founded during the thirteenth century under King Dragutin's rule. It suffered significant damage from Turkish invasions in 1683.
The monastery walls display medieval frescoes showing religious figures such as Saint Peter, Paul, and Sava alongside biblical scenes. These artworks help visitors understand the spiritual heritage of the place.
Access is best from Valjevo by bus to Pocuta, then on foot uphill. The walk takes about an hour and requires comfortable shoes due to the steep terrain.
A natural spring with drinking water sits near the monastery entrance. The fountain dates from 1902 and has served as a refreshing stop for pilgrims and visitors for generations.
