The museum complex spans over 5000 square meters and includes multiple buildings dedicated to literature, local history, and architectural preservation throughout Taganrog.
Established in 1981, the museum incorporates several historic structures, including the former men's classical gymnasium where Anton Chekhov studied during the 19th century.
The museum houses extensive collections related to Anton Chekhov, featuring 1600 exhibits in the Literary Museum and maintaining both his birthplace and family shop locations.
Visitors can explore different sections of the complex, including the Museum of Local History in Alferaki Palace and the Architectural Development Museum in Sharonov's House.
The museum contains the preserved study of writer Ivan Vasilenko, complete with original furnishings and a sculpture of his character Artemka displayed outside the building.
