Monument to City of Military Glory

The Monument to City of Military Glory is a granite and bronze structure that stands prominently in the square near the city's edge. A central column is surrounded by four supporting pillars, each bearing carved military scenes from the city's past.

This structure was authorized in 2011 when the city received official recognition for its defense role during the Second World War. The designation acknowledged the struggles and losses that the local population endured during the conflict.

The bronze reliefs tell stories of defense and sacrifice that shaped the city's identity. These depictions help residents and visitors understand how Taganrog views its own past and why this struggle remains important today.

The monument sits on an accessible square near the airport and can be visited throughout the year. The location regularly hosts commemorative gatherings, and visitors can reach it easily by car or public transport.

The monument resulted from four architects working together, including Igor Voskresensky and Salavat Shtcherbakov, who blended classical design principles with contemporary needs. This collaborative approach shows how modern memorials can draw from traditional forms to express new meanings.
