Merchant Pshenichnikov's house
Merchant Pshenichnikov's house, Classical mansion at Rabochey Molodezhi Embankment, Yekaterinburg, Russia
Merchant Pshenichnikov's house is a classical mansion located on the embankment and now serves as an official reception venue. The building features a rectangular layout with a mezzanine level, a portico supported by four Corinthian columns, and decorative wall niches finished with ornamental plasterwork.
The mansion was built in the 1830s by architects Mikhail Malakhov and Ivan Sviyazev as a residence for merchant Pshenichnikov near the City Pond. Its construction coincided with Yekaterinburg's emergence as the economic center of the Ural region, a period when wealthy families invested in grand homes.
The house reflects how wealthy merchants displayed their status through refined architecture during Yekaterinburg's growth as a trading and mining hub. The classical style and elaborate decoration show the prosperity these families enjoyed in the region.
The building sits directly on the embankment beside the city pond and is easily visible from the street. Access is limited since it functions as an official residence, but the classical facade can be appreciated from the exterior.
The wrought-iron railings on the second floor showcase metalwork craftsmanship that only affluent households could afford during that era. These original fittings reveal the quality standards maintained in every detail of the residence.
