Korniansky ropný prameň

The Korňanský oil spring forms a small pond of 2 meters in diameter, marked by a wooden triangular structure displaying the Slovak national flag.

The spring received natural monument status in 1984, following decades of local use for lighting, heating, and various agricultural applications since the 19th century.

Local stories tell of a hunter named Žúbor who first found the spring while tracking animals through the surrounding Beskyd Mountains.

The natural monument stands 150 meters from the main road parking area and remains open for visitors throughout the year without entrance fees.

This petroleum reservoir produces high-quality paraffinic oil with minimal sulfur content and releases self-igniting methane gas from its surface.
