Malý Polom

Malý Polom is a mountain summit in Čadca District that rises to 1,339 meters above sea level. Its forested slopes offer views across the surrounding Carpathian landscape and extend along the Czech-Slovak border.

The area received protected status as a nature reserve in 1981 to safeguard its natural forest ecosystems. This designation aimed to preserve the woodland habitats characteristic of the Western Carpathians in this border region.

The mountain area maintains its significance for local communities who practice traditional forest management methods passed down through generations.

The main approach route to the summit starts from Bílý Kříž and continues for around four kilometers following the border area. Multiple marked trails provide different route options for hikers visiting the mountain.

The forest composition differs noticeably across the border: fir and beech trees grow together on the Slovak side, while spruce forests dominate the Czech portion. This natural division creates an interesting contrast in woodland types within a relatively small area.
