Wat Thammayan

Wat Thammayan is a temple in Na Chaliang with several structures across its grounds, including a building with octagonal columns and a central Buddha statue in the Sukhothai style. A staircase descends to an underground chamber holding a lotus-shaped stupa beneath the complex.

The temple's roots reach back to the 13th century when the region was under Khmer influence. Na Chaliang was an important trading settlement on the Yom River at that time, shaping the design of this site.

This active monastery serves as a center where monks conduct daily prayers and religious study. Visitors who walk through can observe the rhythm of monastic life as it unfolds throughout the day.

The temple is openly accessible from the outside, with the staircase to the underground chamber easy to navigate. It is best visited in the morning when sunlight clearly illuminates the structures and the heat is less intense.

Within one of the buildings stand two restored Buddha statues whose facial expressions are noticeably different from each other. One conveys wisdom while the other radiates benevolence, representing two distinct aspects of Buddhist philosophy.
