Şahinkaya Canyon

Şahinkaya Canyon is a gorge in Vezirköprü that cuts through the Kızılırmak River valley with towering rock walls on both sides. The passage narrows significantly in places, creating a dramatic confined space surrounded by high cliffs.

The area around the canyon shows archaeological evidence of ancient settlement spanning multiple cultures over centuries. Sites nearby indicate this was a significant passage route in antiquity.

German archaeological teams conduct research expeditions in the area, uncovering layers of Hittite, Seljuk, and Ottoman civilizations.
