Ladik Clock Tower, building in Turkey
The Ladik Clock Tower is a stone tower standing in the center of Ladik town in Samsun Province. The roughly 14 meter-high structure has a cylindrical form with polygonal base, three levels, and is built from red carefully cut stones with large clock faces visible from a distance.
The tower was originally built in 1889 on the order of local administrator Reşit Bey. After severe damage from an earthquake in 1943, it was carefully reconstructed following the original design and appears largely as it did when first built.
The clock tower serves as a gathering place for the people of Ladik and shapes local community life. It stands at the center of the town square and is regularly visited by residents, especially in the morning and evening, when they meet here or check the time.
The tower is easy to reach on foot and sits in a quiet area that invites lingering. The surroundings are simple to navigate and access is free for everyone.
The clockwork is still wound manually by a local caretaker today, preserving an old system that connects past and present. The faint ticking of the clock can be heard from outside and reminds visitors of the era before modern electronics.
