The Miniature Amasya Museum is a museum and miniature park inside a historic building at the center of Amasya, Turkey, displaying a large-scale model of the city at a 1-to-150 scale. The model covers the urban layout of 1914 Amasya, showing streets, houses, key monuments, the river, and the surrounding mountain terrain.
The museum grew out of a project launched in 2008 by the local Special Provincial Administration, which set out to recreate the city as it appeared in a photograph taken in 1914. After roughly two years of construction, it opened to the public in 2010.
The model is accompanied by traditional Turkish music and recorded sounds of city life, creating an experience that goes beyond simply looking at a display. Visitors often pause to listen as much as to watch, which gives the space a quality unlike a typical museum room.
The museum sits within the Sultan Bayezid II complex in the center of Amasya, making it easy to combine with a walk through the old town. The visit is short and works well for all ages, including families with young children.
The rocky mountain on which Amasya Castle stands was scanned with 3D technology so its shape in the model matches the real terrain as closely as possible. The display also shifts between day and night, with small lights simulating over 2,300 stars in the model sky above the city.
