Büyük Aga Medrese, Ottoman medrese in Amasya, Turkey

The U-shaped educational complex features student chambers arranged around an octagonal courtyard with domed arcades and a central lecture hall.

Built in 1488 by Hüseyin Ağa, the chief of palace eunuchs, during Sultan Bayezid II's reign, this medrese served as a center of Islamic education.

The medrese incorporates traditional Ottoman construction techniques with classical architectural elements, including domed spaces and stone masonry throughout the structure.

The building maintains its educational purpose today, functioning as a training center for individuals studying to memorize the complete Quran.

This medrese introduced the first octagonal plan layout in Seljuk architecture, setting a new standard for educational building design in the region.
