Büyük Aga Medrese

Büyük Aga Medrese is an Ottoman-era educational complex in Amasya with a U-shaped layout and rooms arranged around an octagonal courtyard. Domed arcades frame the central space, and a lecture hall sits at the heart of the structure to accommodate teaching and learning.

The building was constructed in 1488 by Hüseyin Ağa, a high official under Sultan Bayezid II, as a center for Islamic learning and scholarship. It served the region as an important place where students could pursue advanced studies in religious and secular sciences.

The building shows how people gathered here to study and pray together in an organized community setting. The arrangement of rooms around a central court reflects the tradition of sharing knowledge within a close learning environment.
