The fortress stands on a rocky peak with 28 towers surrounding its perimeter and stone walls designed for military defense and surveillance.
The initial structures of the fortress date back to the 5th century when Christian groups from Comana Pontica established their residence in this location.
The castle has influenced regional traditions, serving as a gathering place for community events and carrying stories of its former role as a prison.
Visitors can now explore the restored sections of the castle, including the recently discovered secret tunnels and underground chambers through guided tours.
Prince Vlad III, who inspired the character of Dracula, spent time imprisoned in one of the castle's dungeons during the early 15th century.
