Hamidiye Camii

Hamidiye Camii is a mosque in Istanbul's Yıldız district with a rectangular layout and a single minaret. The structure combines Neo-Gothic architectural features with traditional Ottoman design patterns in an unconventional way.

Sultan Abdul Hamid II commissioned this prayer house between 1884 and 1886 as an integral part of the Yıldız Palace complex. The building arose during a period of major transformations to the Ottoman capital.

The interior displays traditional Islamic artistic elements through detailed tilework, elegant calligraphy, and geometric patterns. These decorative touches create a contemplative space for visitors and worshippers alike.

The prayer house underwent comprehensive restoration in 2017, resulting in renewed structures and facilities. Visitors should keep in mind it remains an active place of worship requiring appropriate dress and respectful behavior.

On July 21, 1905, the prayer house became the target of a bomb attack that killed 26 people and injured 58 others. This tragic event left deep marks on both the site's and the city's history.
