Zhongxiao Road, Urban road in East District, Taipei, Taiwan
Zhongxiao Road spans through multiple districts of Taipei, connecting Zhongzheng district in the west to Nangang district in the east, with eight to ten traffic lanes.
The road underwent a name change in 1970 from Zhongzheng Road, named after Chiang Kai-shek, when the eastern extension of the thoroughfare was completed.
The name Zhongxiao reflects traditional Confucian values of loyalty and filial piety, which remain central to Taiwanese society and cultural identity.
The Bannan line of the Taipei Metro runs beneath the road, with stations at major intersections providing convenient access to numerous department stores and shopping centers.
The intersection with Zhongshan Road features a specialized two-lane underpass that allows vehicles to bypass the main traffic junction completely.
