Chiayi Park, Urban park in East District, Taiwan
Chiayi Park is a public green space in East District with multiple recreational zones spread across landscaped grounds. It includes gardens, walking paths, children's play areas, an ice skating rink, a historical museum, a Confucius Temple, and a tower for viewing the surroundings.
The site was established in 1910 during Japan's colonial period as a public recreation area. A preserved steam locomotive from the Alishan Forest Railway now stands within the grounds, representing the region's transportation heritage from that era.
The Confucius Temple within the grounds follows classical architectural traditions and serves as a place where visitors observe religious observances. Local people gather here for celebrations and ceremonies that mark the seasons and important dates throughout the year.
The park is accessible on foot and visitors can move freely between different sections throughout the day. Arriving in the early morning is a good idea to enjoy quieter walking paths before the playgrounds and rink become crowded with families.
The grounds feature peacock gardens where visitors can observe these colorful birds in semi-natural conditions. The birds here are so accustomed to people that they often roam freely through open garden areas rather than hiding away.
