Sun-Shooting Tower, Observation tower in Chiayi Park, Taiwan
The Sun-Shooting Tower is a 62-meter observation structure in Chiayi Park with architectural design that resembles an Alishan tree trunk using brown aluminum patterns. Multiple viewing levels throughout the structure offer perspectives across the park and surrounding cityscape.
The structure was built and opened to the public in 1998 as a modern addition to Chiayi Park. It was created as part of efforts to honor local natural and cultural heritage through contemporary architecture.
A 24-meter bronze sculpture inside shows the Sun-Shooting legend from Taiwanese indigenous stories. This artwork connects visitors to the myths and beliefs that have been passed down through generations.
The tower is reachable on foot from Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway or by Chiayi County Bus from Taiwan Railways Station. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and can use stairs and elevators to reach different viewing levels.
A vertical empty space runs approximately 40 meters through the tower's center and mirrors the natural crack found in the trunk of the sacred Alishan giant tree. This design element directly connects the modern structure to the region's natural landmark.
