Hutoupi Scenic Area

Hutoupi Scenic Area is a mountain reservoir park with a 27-hectare water surface surrounded by mountains that form the shape of a tiger face. The grounds offer bicycle rentals, camping areas, barbecue facilities, and conference rooms for various activities.

The reservoir was built in 1846 as Taiwan's first and originally served agricultural irrigation purposes. This function shaped the region for well over a century.

The tiger-themed bridge and central pavilion have become gathering spots where locals and visitors spend time together, reflecting how the place functions as a community meeting point. The design weaves traditional concepts with modern recreation.

The site is reachable by regular buses from Tainan Station, and ample parking is available for vehicles. Visitors should prefer early morning or late afternoon hours to avoid crowds and enjoy the best natural lighting.

In 1954 the grounds earned recognition as one of eight natural wonders of Tainan County, a distinction that highlights its environmental and recreational importance. This rare honor sets it apart among other local destinations.
