Erwang Temple

Erwang Temple is a religious sanctuary in Yongkang, Tainan, built in the Four Pavilion style architecture with multiple halls arranged symmetrically along its main axis. The layout follows a traditional Chinese design where smaller structures flank the central chamber.

The temple was founded during the Yong-li period to honor Zheng Jing and Zheng Chenggong, known as Koxinga. It was relocated to its current site in 1949 and fully reconstructed in 1954 after suffering damage during foreign occupation.

The temple serves as a gathering place where residents come together for religious ceremonies and local celebrations. The practices observed here remain central to community life and reflect the spiritual traditions valued by those who live nearby.

The temple is located on Yong 2nd Street and is accessible by public transportation connecting various areas of Tainan. Nearby landmarks like Chi Mei Hospital on Zhonghua Road can serve as reference points for finding your way.

The temple was completely rebuilt in less than 5 years after moving to its current address, blending old and new construction elements. This rapid reconstruction project demonstrates how important it was for the community to restore their spiritual center.
