Zuojhen Beiji Temple

Zuojhen Beiji Temple is a Chinese temple in Zuojhen District featuring intricate wooden carvings and ornate roofs decorated with dragons and mythological figures. The structure displays classic Chinese architecture with multiple courtyards and layered halls designed for various ceremonies.

The temple was founded in 1684 and served as a spiritual center for local farmers and salt workers who moved goods through nearby Pan Port. Over the centuries, it evolved into a significant building tied to the region's development and community life.

The temple is dedicated to Xuan Tian Shang Di, the deity of the North Star, and draws visitors who participate in regular rituals and ceremonies held throughout the year. Locals come here to pray for protection and blessing, making it an active religious center for the community.

The temple is open daily from early morning until late evening, allowing visitors to explore the grounds at their own pace. Comfortable shoes are recommended since there are several stairs to climb in order to see all areas of the temple.

Every 12 years, a major sacrificial ceremony takes place here with processions following historical routes that once marked river channels used in salt trading. This tradition connects the temple's religious life directly to the region's salt trade history.
