TouCheng ShiGuanYin Temple, Chinese temple in Toucheng, Taiwan
TouCheng ShiGuanYin Temple is a Chinese temple in Toucheng featuring Buddha statues and detailed stone carvings spread across multiple buildings. The complex sits in mountainous surroundings and impresses through its grand layout and artful decorative work covering the facades.
The temple began in the 1820s as a natural cave dedicated to Guanyin. Later expansions transformed this modest sacred space into the major religious complex visible today.
The temple brings together Buddhist and Taoist deities in shared spaces, reflecting the spiritual blend that shapes local religious life. You'll see this mixing of traditions at different altars where worshippers come to pay respect.
Visitors reach the temple via the Shiguanyin Trail, which is part of the broader Taoyuan Valley Trail system and passes through varied terrain. Good walking shoes and moderate fitness help since some sections climb more steeply than others.
One notable feature is a shrine to Huye, the tiger god, positioned unusually alongside Tudigong, the earth god. This rare pairing draws visitors who come to see this uncommon divine combination.
