Old Daxi Bridge, Transportation landmark in Taoyuan City, Taiwan.
The Old Daxi Bridge is a steel and concrete crossing over the lower Daxi River in the Taoyuan region, once connecting Taichung City and Miaoli County. It consists of several sections with steel trusses and concrete piers that still show its former dual purpose.
This crossing was built in 1920 during Japanese rule and originally served both rail and road traffic at the same time. Its transportation role ended in 1975 when newer structures took over.
This crossing shows early 20th century engineering methods and combines different transportation routes in a single structure. The way it was built reflects how local and international construction techniques came together at that time.
This crossing is currently not accessible for visits due to damage from a 2004 typhoon that forced it to close. Restoration work is ongoing and managed by the Dajia District Office.
This crossing shows visibly separated sections for rail and road traffic, an unusual design for that era. This dual structure makes it a notable example of how two different transportation types once shared the same bridge.
