Nanfangao Jinan Temple

Nanfangao Jinan Temple is a sanctuary at the fishing port featuring multiple Matsu statues and traditional Chinese architecture with wooden beams and stone details. The structure displays ornate roofs, colorful painted elements, and carved decorations that reflect the craftsmanship of earlier generations.

The temple came into being in the 1920s as Nanfangao port developed into an important fishing center. It was established to serve the needs of local fishers who relied on spiritual protection for their boats and catch.

The temple honors Matsu, goddess of the sea, and its altars display offerings from fishing families seeking blessings for their catches. Visitors can observe how the local fishing community maintains this spiritual connection as part of their daily working lives.

The building is easily accessible on foot from the port and offers a calm place to explore near the harbor activity. Visitors should note that the best time to visit is during mackerel season from September to February, when port life is most active.

In 2007 the temple received a coral statue of Matsu from a jewelry trader who claimed he received divine guidance through a dream. This rare statue made from organic material draws visitor attention today and tells a remarkable story about faith and generosity.
