Wushihbi Coastal Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Suao, Taiwan.
Wushihbi Coastal Nature Reserve is a protected area along the Suao-Hualien highway spanning 347 hectares with fjords, bays, and shell ridge rock formations. The site lies between two creeks and features subtropical evergreen broadleaf forest throughout.
The site received official protection in 1994 as part of a larger forest management area under Luodong Forest administration. This designation helped preserve the coastal woodland ecosystem for the future.
The reserve serves as a place to learn about coastal ecosystems and how subtropical forests grow along rocky shores. People visit to see native animals and plants living in their natural environment.
The area receives rain on about 200 days per year, so waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear are essential for any visit. Trails can become muddy and slippery, especially after rainy spells.
The reserve is home to about ten mammal species, more than fifty bird types, plus reptiles and amphibians living in close proximity. This concentration of wildlife in a relatively small area makes it a special place for observing animals.
