The theater presents classical and contemporary performances in a restored two-story structure with columns, pilasters, and sculptural decorations on its facade.
Founded in 1847 as a merchant-funded city theater, the venue was reconstructed in 1956 following extensive damage during World War II.
The theater contributes to regional artistic development through regular productions of Ukrainian and international plays, fostering local talent and cultural exchange.

In May 2022, the theater organized special performances for military personnel and individuals displaced by the conflict in Ukraine.
