George R. Newell House, Richardsonian Romanesque residence in Stevens Square-Loring Heights, Minneapolis, United States.

The exterior of the George R. Newell House features Lake Superior sandstone walls, a terrace, arched entrance porch, and ornamental panels carved in stone.

Built in 1888 by architect Charles Sumner Sedgwick for lumber businessman Sumner T. McKnight, the house was later purchased by grocery firm founder George R. Newell.

The Victorian interior displays detailed oak and sycamore woodwork, along with original Tiffany & Co. lighting fixtures and gold-leaf scrollwork throughout the rooms.

Located at 1818 LaSalle Avenue in Minneapolis, the house received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in September 1977.

The residence connects to the origins of SuperValu, as George R. Newell's son transformed their family grocery business into this major retail corporation.
