Loring Park, Urban park in downtown Minneapolis, United States.
Loring Park is a 33-acre park in downtown Minneapolis featuring a pond, gardens, tennis courts, and basketball courts. The grounds also include a playground and multiple pathways that wind through natural landscapes.
The land was acquired in 1883 by the Minneapolis Park Board and later renamed from Central Park to Loring Park. This name change took place in 1890 and marked a new chapter for this central public space.
The park hosts the Twin Cities Pride Festival each June, drawing visitors from across the region to celebrate. It also serves as the setting for an art festival in July that brings together local artists and crafts people.
The park offers different activities year-round, including ice skating in winter and wading pools in summer. Multiple entrances and clearly marked areas make it easy to find sports facilities and recreational spots.
The first electric lights in any Minnesota park were installed here in 1884 specifically for winter sports activities. This innovation allowed people to enjoy ice skating even after dark fell.
