Gallagher Mansion and Outbuilding
Gallagher Mansion and Outbuilding, Renaissance Revival mansion in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Gallagher Mansion is a Renaissance Revival house in Maryland with walls built from local rough fieldstone and rubble. A mansard roof topped with decorative slate tiles covers the structure, and a two-story wooden carriage house sits nearby on the same grounds.
The structure was built around 1854 as an Italianate villa for upscale living. Later in the 1800s, Second Empire design elements were added to give the building a more fashionable appearance.
The mansion shows how Baltimore's wealthy residents blended Italian and French design styles during the 1800s to express status and taste. The rough stone walls and slate roof reflect the building choices that set upper-class homes apart from ordinary neighborhood houses.
The property is located on Notre Dame Lane in Baltimore and covers about 3.6 acres of land. Visitors should know the grounds include private structures and advance permission may be needed to explore the site.
The mansion received two official recognitions: it appears on the National Register of Historic Places and holds the status of a Baltimore City Landmark. This dual designation highlights how valued this property is within the city's architectural heritage.
