John and Syd Dobkins House, Frank Lloyd Wright residential design in Canton, United States.
The John and Syd Dobkins House is a residence in Canton, Ohio, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright with tall casement windows and doors reaching almost to the roofline. The geometric layout follows a pattern of equilateral triangles repeated throughout the floor plan.
The house was built in 1954 under the supervision of Allan J. Gelbin, an architect from Wright's Taliesin fellowship. It is one of three Usonian houses Wright designed in Canton.
The residence demonstrates Wright's Usonian philosophy of creating harmonious, affordable homes that integrate naturally with their environment through thoughtful architectural elements.
The property sits on Plain Center N.E. and covers roughly 5 acres (2 hectares) with two bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. The approach runs through a more rural neighborhood northeast of downtown.
Wright drew a planting plan with fourteen pin oak trees positioned in precise relation to the triangular layout. The trees form a spatial extension of the geometry inside the house.
