Marine Corps Supply Activity
Marine Corps Supply Activity, Military supply building in Point Breeze, Philadelphia, US.
The Marine Corps Supply Activity is a military supply building in Point Breeze, Philadelphia, that extends five stories above ground. The structure consists of red brick with stone accents and Ionic pilasters, occupying approximately one acre of land.
The building was constructed between 1904 and 1908 in two phases and developed into a major hub for military supply operations. During World War II, it played a significant role under Brigadier General Maurice Gregory in supporting wartime logistics.
The building displays early 20th-century military design with classical elements that were common in government structures of that era. Visitors can notice the craftsmanship in the facade with its stone details and proportioned columns.
The building is located at 1100 South Broad Street in Philadelphia and can be easily reached by public transportation. It has been converted into residential units and can be viewed from the street, but offers no public access to the interior.
During wartime, the facility produced a surprising range of equipment items, from helmet components to mosquito nets and mess kits for troops. This production diversity shows how critical the building was in supporting soldiers in the field.
